Temple Emanuel High Holy Day Appeal 5786

It is our custom at TE to ask our members for donations at the High Holy Days to strengthen our community and the broader world. This year we will be holding our High Holy Day Appeal online as well as in person during Yom Kippur services, to make it easier to support this wonderful TE tradition for everyone. We ask those of you who can to make a contribution to strengthen Temple Emanuel, and to help us continue the work we do for our community and the world.
Please be as generous as you can, every donation makes a difference!

In addition to supporting Temple Emanuel, we invite you to contribute to our annual Tikkun Olam appeal. The board has chosen to support Save A Child's Heart - An Israeli organization that brings children from all over the developing world to have open heart surgery in Israel; American Foundation for Suicide Prevention; and JCARR: Jewish Community Alliance for Refugee Resettlement. (For more information on each organization, see below).

Temple Emanuel supports the state of Israel each year by investing in Israel Bonds as part of our High Holy Day Appeal. Please consider a contribution which helps us support Israel now, and later returns the funds to TE.

Here's some info about our Tikkun Olam recipients this year:

LOCAL
JCARR: Jewish Community Alliance for Refugee Resettlement
JCARR is a partnership of New Haven-area synagogues and the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven, of which Temple Emanuel is a founding member. As a co-sponsor for Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS), JCARR helps new refugee and immigrant families resettle in our community. Since December 2015, JCARRs numerous volunteers have welcomed and helped settle ten refugee families who fled their home countries to escape persecution and violence.

NATIONAL
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
Established in 1987, the AFSP is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death. AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, including those who have experienced a loss. AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health by engaging in the following core strategies: • Funding scientific research • Educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention • Advocating for public policies in mental health and suicide prevention • Supporting survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide

INTERNATIONAL/ISRAEL
Save A Child's Heart
Save a Child's Heart saves the lives of critically ill children suffering from heart disease in countries where access to pediatric heart care is limited or nonexistent. Through bringing children to Israel for medical care, performing missions abroad, and training medical personnel, they are bringing hope to families, communities, and countries. As Israel's preeminent humanitarian organization, they are transforming pediatric cardiac care around the world. They mend hearts regardless of race, religion, gender, nationality or financial status.

Thank you for your support. Happy and Healthy 5786!
