Temple Emanuel High Holy Day Appeal 5785

It is our custom at TE to ask our members for donations at the High Holy Days. We usually do this during Yom Kippur services by handing out envelopes with tab cards in them. This year we will be holding our High Holy Day Appeal online as well as in person, to make it easier to support this wonderful TE tradition for everyone. We ask those of you who can to make a contribution to strengthen Temple Emanuel, and to help us continue the work we do for our community and the world.
Please be as generous as you can, every donation makes a difference!

In addition to supporting Temple Emanuel, we invite you to contribute to our annual Tikkun Olam appeal. The board has chosen to support Keren b'Kavod - the Center for Social and Communal Activity of the Israeli Reform Movement to help support tens of thousands of Israelis who have been displaced by rocket attacks over the last year; Hillel International helping provide support for Jewish college students on campuses throughout the country; and The Orange Fire Department , supporting the vitally important work of volunteers protecting our community. (For more information on each organization, see below).

Temple Emanuel supports the state of Israel each year by investing in Israel Bonds as part of our High Holy Day Appeal. Please consider a contribution to help us support Israel.

Here's some info about our Tikkun Olam recipients this year:

LOCAL
Orange Fire Department
Neighbors helping Neighbors Since 1925 this has been a slogan that members of the Orange Volunteer Fire Association have lived by. All members serve on a volunteer basis and respond to all fire service calls 24 hours/ 7 days a week/ 365 days a year. Annually the department responds to an average of about 500 - 600 calls, in under five minutes. Service calls range from structure fires, activated fire alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, motor vehicle accident extrication and clean up, hazmat situations, etc.

NATIONAL
Hillel International
Since its founding in 1923, Hillel has become the world’s largest, most inclusive Jewish campus organization, serving more than 140,000 students each year at 850 colleges and universities around the world. Hillel is a global community and a movement, but it’s also more than that: It’s a promise to empower every Jewish student along their Jewish journey, positively impacting the lives of generations of young Jews and ensuring the Jewish future, now and for years to come.

INTERNATIONAL/ISRAEL
Keren b'Kavod – the Center for Social and Communal Activity of the Israeli Reform Movement
Keren b'Kavod – the Center for Social and Communal Activity of the Israeli Reform Movement assists populations in distress, with an emphasis on social empowerment. We conduct activities throughout the year in the areas of education, culture and nutritional security. As a fund for Humanitarian Assistance and Social Responsibility, we assist disadvantaged populations throughout the year from all segments of Israeli society, regardless of religion, place of origin or political affiliation, in order to minimize gaps in Israeli society and promote social justice. Our mission is to influence and create 'Tikkun Olam' in Israeli society. We do so by operating programs and projects of philanthropy and social involvement in conjunction with the Reform congregations throughout Israel. Since October 7th, 2023 Keren B'kavod has been actively supporting tens of thousands of Israelis who have been displaced by the rockets from their communities.

Thank you for your support. Happy and Healthy 5785!
Lew Shaffer, Temple Emanuel President.
